Projects implemented from 2003-2007
Over the years the management of the organization has succeeded in organizing and implementing projects on the following:
- Health related activities
- Education (basic and adult education)
- Agriculture
- Infrastructure Development
- Good governance, democracy and human rights activities
- The general Presidential and Parliamentary Electioneering process and the runoff in Sierra Leone 2007
- Providing opportunities for disabled people.
a. In May 2003 MAP-SL succeeded in organizing sensitizations and awareness raising campaign seminars in Gbendembu Ngowahun Chiefdom, Tokpombu Dama Kenema District and other operational areas of MAP-SL on the prevention of STI’s and HIV/AIDS backed by condom distribution, the use of safe drinking water and storage which 5000 beneficiaries benefited from it. 2000 from Gbendembu and its environs and 3000 from Tokpombu and its environs.
b. In September 2003, we were able to organize start a primary school in the Malama Community in peri-urban area of Freetown. This serves as a support to the underprivileged children whose parents could not afford to send them in any of the primary schools within the community due to their level of earning. We have succeeded having over Two Hundred Students attending preparatory one to six.
The management have succeeded in organizing and conducting classes for 300 adults learners in 20 communities within Sierra Leone, who where not fortunate to enrolled in the formal education system.
c. In 2004 MAP-SL supervised and undertook maintenance and repairs of 10 hand-pumps in the Gbendembu Ngowahun chiefdom. Materials and funds were provided by Life water International USA and Child-help Sierra Leone for the maintenance and payment of the technical staff who were all members of MAP-SL.
d. In 2004, we succeeded in organizing a group of youths in Torkpombu village, Dama Chiefdom in Kenema District, Eastern Province of Sierra Leone to undertake agricultural projects geared towards contributing to the National Food security. Since then, they have produced about 1,500 bushels of seed rice and also conducted leadership and administrative training for ten community members to enable them manage the project effectively.
e. We have been able to support communities in Dama Chiefdom, Kenema District in the Eastern Region of Sierra Leone (Tokpombu and Madina ) have succeeded in reconstructing of twenty dwelling houses completed for community members.
f. In 2006 to date, MAP-SL has been networking with Western Area Human Right Coalition and Lawyers Centre for Legal Assistant (LAWCLA) in advocating and educating local communities in Provinces, urban and peri-urban areas of Freetown in basic fundamental human rights in relation to behavioral changes.
g. We also played major roles in the recent general Presidential and Parliamentary elections and the run-off in collaboration with the National Electoral Commission (NEC), National Election Watch (NEW) and National Democratic Institute-Network organization (Democracy Sierra Leone DSL) in the Stakeholders planning meetings, sensitizing and educating communities on the important and the correct ways of voting, monitoring, and observing the whole electioneering processes,
h. Presently engaged on community sensitization on the implementation and impact of the Sierra Leone-Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (SL-PRSP) and Decentralization.
i. We Provided transportation facilities to disabled voters to and from polling stations on the day of the general and run-off elections in Sierra Leone.
